SCI029 – Chilling on the Couch .04 LP

Yes yes! It took ages to complete this release, but finally it has arrived: the 4th chapter in the “Chilling on the Couch” LP saga on Scientific Records! This time we decided to take a slightly different route compared to the previous 3 editions. Where those were mainly 170 bpm based, featuring a lot of drum&bass influences, this 4th chapter consists of more house/techno and downtempo/chillout vibes. Slower bpm’s, but still the same deep and laidback “Chilling on the Couch” atmospheres that you’re familiar with when you’ve been following the series over the years.

The LP kicks off with an amazing housy chillout track by St. Petersburg based Russian producer Nuage called “Traffic”, followed by a great downtempo remix with many live-band influences by Lithuanian producer Leon Somov of Emery & Garo’s “Moon Love”, with the talented Umiko on vocals. Liquid Stealers is up next, a collaboration project by Eugenics Eight and nClear, 2 incredibly talented producers that usually create mainly drum&bass music. Their highly relaxing tune “Flavour of the West Coast” features NailMan on the electric guitar. “Summer Nights”, as well as “Dawn Chorus” that comes later on the LP, both by ActRaiser, were actually released earlier on Scientific on ActRaiser’s solo album “Campfire Philosophy”. Both tracks fit the vibe of this Chilling on the Couch album so well, that we decided to re-release them and add them to the tracklist. Both pure timeless gems!

Next up we have 2 great house tunes, starting off with the uplifting summer vibe track “5000 miles (feat. Sofi)” by Physical Illusion. Andre Sobota, also known as Bungle for his drum&bass productions, delivers the next track on the album, called “Common Ground”, a great deephouse tune! This is followed by Brother’s downtempo/house crossover “Your Thing”, a timeless piece of art. “Bliss”, the 2nd tune on the album by Physical Illusion, is a more downtempo based chillout track with lovely vocals in the break. Another artist with 2 tunes on the release is Andre Sobota. With his “Breath again” he shows his versatility as a producer, as this tune is a completely different style compared to his other addition to this album. Both amazing productions! “Regret” by Nuage features Veronique Vaka on the violin and is a lovely crossover between house and chillstep, produced in a way that only Nuage can. Next up is Barefoot with his awesome chillstep track “Antique”, followed by Hungarian producer C41’s remix of Bop’s remix of Mav’s “Skylines” and “For the little ones”, called “A Journey through Skylines (but Sweet Dreams)”. A remix of a remix, that was a crossover of 2 different tunes in the first place! Can you still follow? 😊 “Neptune dub” by Parhelia gives the album a twist of dreamy, dubby awesomeness, while N4m3’s “Charity”, featuring amazing vocals by Djiva, takes you on a dark and trippy path. Another dubby and somewhat dark track is up next: “Afraid to Touch” by Halo. We end the album with a bonus-track that refers to the 170 bpm drum&bass roots of Scientific as a label, with the more energetic and breakbeat flavored Upzet remix of N4m3’s “Tomorrow”, that was originally featured on Chilling on the Couch .03.

All in all, there are a lot of different flavors on this album. Even though it consists of a wide range of sub-genres and tempos, Chilling on the Couch .04 LP still manages to form a whole and take you on a spacey journey through the deeper sides of chillout music, featuring great music by some of the best
atmospheric chillout producers out there.
